Portray is created with an urge to unravel the layers of a body through its reservoir. Tapping into the timeless states of being, connecting through the bliss of letting go. Portray is a continuation of Shoukry’s choreographic curiosity about inner movement, repetition and transformation.

*Arab World Premier

Type: Contemporary Dance
Duration: 35 min

Choreography: Mounir Saeed
Musician: Balqeis
Soundtrack: Rain Artillery-Gunfire

In Nawah (nucleus), Mounir Saeed dances to musician Balqeis’ live oud in a performance dedicated to the contrast between war and peace. They highlight the tension between both extremes and make this in-between space universally accessible by focusing on the constant negotiations we each carry within us when facing challenges throughout life. Nawah shows how one can be faced with difficult issues, yet but still be at peace, how one can be hurting, yet still be at peace, how one can be dying, yet still at peace… by exploring the contrasts between each side and the apparent paradox of their co-existence.

Type: Contemporary Dance
Duration: 45 mins
Language: Arabic and English

Performer: Mohamed Fouad
Light designer: Saber El Sayed
Musician: Mina Atwan

Without Damage explores key elements that make us a member of a society. Mohamed Fouad reflects on the fragile concepts of popularity and success, both generally and specifically. Without Damage exposes to the audience Fouad’s skills, his identity, body, emotions, gender, as well as his difficulties and pains. Even the artist’s innermost thoughts on the nature of performing are laid bare, thus also including the live audience in his musings. When a performance becomes a commodity that can be bought and sold, it also embodies a contradiction from which the artist can never fully escape.
