Possession/Al Ghiwaya is a performance based on the experiences and writings of Egyptian Desert Hermits from the third century AD. The show is a poetic exploration of what it is to seek silence–and amid the silence, this music-led work blends Coptic, Nubian and Sufi song, Arabic drumming, and Tibetan bowls. Developed in desert retreats in Minya and Nubia, “Possession” brings a lyrical, haunting work of Egyptian desert theater to the stage.
*This show is an international collaboration of UK and Egyptian artists, made collaboratively.
*This show has been made during retreats in the Egyptian desert.
Please note that 21 March is a preview of the performance.
